Prevalence of anti-hepatitis E virus antibodies in French blood donors.Boutrouille A, Bakkali-Kassimi L, Crucière C, Pavio N UMR 1161, Ecole Nationale Vétérinaire d'Alfort, Bâtiment Bressou, 7 avenue du Général de Gaulle, 94704 Maisons-Alfort Cedex, France. Accumulating evidence suggests that hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection is an emerging disease in regions where HEV is nonendemic. In France, the prevalence of anti-HEV antibodies in the general population has never been studied. Using blood donors' samples, we have found a prevalence of 3.20%, which is similar to that of other industrialized countries. Published 5 June 2007 in J Clin Microbiol, 45(6): 2009-10.
